With an elevation of 485 meters, it is the highest-lying municipality of the region. Its 175 inhabitants live surrounded by forests and mountains. It borders with Beasain, Albistur, Bidegoian, Errezil and Azpeitia. Nuarbe is the most important neighbourhood and is known to be the geographical centre of the province.
The hermitages of San Lorenzo and Nuestra Señora de la Soledad as well as the town house and the parish church of San Pedro inside the town can be highlighted in its cultural and historical heritage. We can also find mills, coal mines and lime kilns in the surrounding mountains.
The patron saint festivities of San Pedro are celebrated at the end of June.
